Advanced engineering analysis is the analysis of engineering parts and systems using computer simulation. Our engineers utilise advanced engineering analysis to solve complex problems that cannot be solved accurately using traditional analytical and empirical calculations. It is also used to reduce engineering time and cost. Foxground Consulting Engineers advanced engineering analysis services include finite element analysis, dynamic simulation and pipe flow analysis.
Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
FEA is a numerical method to understand and quantify the effects of real-world conditions on a solid body or assembly. It is used to analyse material deformation, stress, fatigue, buckling, vibration, heat transfer, and so forth. At Foxground Consulting Engineers we use FEA for the following applications:
Structural Analysis of steel and composite structures including but not limited to commercial and industrial buildings, fixed and mobile platforms, structures supporting mechanical plant, cranes and lifting equipment. FEA is generally used to analyse the effects of gravity, wind, earthquakes, people, traffic/vehicles, mechanical equipment, water, snow and ice loads. Where possible we use commercial software with in-built compliance checking to verify the structures comply with the applicable Australian Standards such as AS4100 for steel structures.
Mechanical Analysis of mechanical parts and assemblies including but not limited to pressure vessels, pressure piping, cranes and lifting equipment, tanks, silos, bulk material bins and hoppers, mobile mining equipment, rotating and vibrating equipment, and so on. Our capabilities include linear and non-linear analysis, static and transient simulations, and various load types and load combinations including but not limited to gravity, acceleration, forced vibration, seismic loads, wind, pressure and thermal loads. Where possible we use commercial software with in-built compliance checking to verify the equipment complies with the applicable Australian or International Standards such as ASME B31.3 for process piping.
Dynamic Simulation
Dynamic Simulation is the rigid-body analysis of mechanical multibody systems to understand and quantify the kinematic effects of linear and angular motion such as position, velocity, acceleration and jerk, and the kinetic effects such as force and torque. At Foxground Consulting Engineers we typically use dynamic simulation together with FEA whereby the loads derived in the rigid-body analysis are used to analyse the deformation and stress of the mechanical components in FEA. Our services include the design and verification of mechanical parts such as excavator booms, scissor lift linkages, drilling rig linkages, and so forth.
Pipe Flow Analysis
Pipe Flow Analysis is the analysis of hydraulic and pneumatic flow in commercial and industrial pipes/ducts to determine fluid velocity, flow rate, pressure and pressure drop. At Foxground Consulting Engineers it is used to design process systems including the sizing of pipework and selection of process equipment such as pumps, air compressors, valves, etc. Our services include the design and verification of water pumping systems, compressed air reticulation systems and various other industrial processes.
